Kyabje Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche

His Eminence the Seventh Kyabje Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche is a revered spiritual master whose life is devoted to preserving, practising, and transmitting the Buddha Dharma for the benefit of all beings.

A Revered Spiritual Master

His Eminence the Seventh Kyabje Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche was born in 1966 in Tokaphu, near Tongzhang Thrichu Gonpa in Trashi Yangtse, Eastern Bhutan.

He was born to Yab Tshering Gyaltshen and Yum Sherab Zangmo and was recognised as the Seventh Namkhai Nyingpo by His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.

Following traditional examinations and official endorsement by the Royal Government of Bhutan, His Eminence formally ascended the throne of his predecessor at Pema Shedrup Chholing, the Second Kharchu Monastery in Bumthang, in 1972.

Education and Training

From an early age, His Eminence displayed remarkable aptitude in study and practice. During a crowning ceremony at Bodh Gaya, India, in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he received the name Tenzin Gyaltshen and the Kalachakra Empowerment.

Under the guidance of Khenchen Kunga Wangchuk and many of the most respected masters of Tibetan Buddhism, His Eminence undertook extensive study of Buddhist philosophy, including the Thirteen Great Philosophical Texts.

His training reflects the Rimé, or non-sectarian, tradition, drawing upon the wisdom of both the Nyingma and Sarma schools.

Founder of Lhodrak Kharchu Monastery

In 1982, His Eminence established Lhodrak Kharchu Monastery in Bumthang, Bhutan. Over the years, the monastery has developed into a major centre for Buddhist study, practice, and monastic training.

With the support of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Eminence established a Study Centre in 1994 and a Practice Centre in 1996.

Today, the monastic community accommodates more than 700 monks and provides education in Buddhist philosophy, meditation, traditional arts, and ritual practice.

Holder of the Jangter Lineage

His Eminence is the principal holder of the Jangter, or Northern Treasure, lineage, one of the important treasure traditions of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism.

Through teachings, empowerments, transmissions, and practice guidance, he continues to preserve and transmit this lineage for future generations.

Global Dharma Activities

In addition to his responsibilities in Bhutan, His Eminence has established and supported Dharma centres in many countries around the world.

Through regular teachings, empowerments, retreats, and community activities, he continues to make the Buddha Dharma accessible to people from diverse backgrounds.

Kharchu Centre Australia operates under his direct spiritual guidance and is dedicated to preserving and sharing the Buddha Dharma in Australia through study, practice, and community engagement.
